Facebook Safety
The facebook phenomenon has taken the teen world by storm over the last few years, and children of all ages have active accounts. Though social networking can be a legitimate and fun way to interact with friends and get a global perspective, there are risks to the online world that cannot be ignored. It only takes a quick good search to find horror stories experienced by teens and children in the news.
Facebook is not blocked or banned at BIS. In fact, it can even prove useful in HPD class, such as this example of an environmental health page, or as a tool for collecting data in intervention mapping projects. However, if parents are going to allow their children to use facebook and other social networking sites, they should follow this sound advice:
