Reading & Resources
The curriculum is divided into a number of strands or study areas. We aim to cover some topics from each area in Middle School and again in High School. The timing of units depends very much on age-appropriateness, current world and local events, the pastoral care needs and academic interests of students.
These pages provide an overview of some reading and learning resources that we can use in class, or which can be used by parents in their own discussions with their children. For parents who wish to purchase reading materials, Amazon has a good reading list feature which you can access to get recommendations from other parents. Here is an example:

If you would like to contribute an Amazon reading list (you’ll need an Amazon account), please send us the link.

Care is taken to ensure that resources used are medically and factually sound and represent a balanced international perspective. HPD is taught using health materials from many countries, as well as up-to-date news stories and stimulus.
Health information given is sensible, evidence-based and from reliable sources. Students are not given advice on alternative medicine or other health issues with little, no or weak scientific evidence. As part of the course, students learn to evaluate scientific claims and find and use reliable sources of health information.
